If there are multiple candidates for any positions, we will run meet the candidate sessions prior to the vote which will be held online from November 17, 2022 to December 19, 2022. Newly elected officers will be announced at the December 21st commons meeting. New officers will assume their offices on January 1, 2023.

Provincial Court Report from the Cloisters Demo – Oct. 2022

Among the spectacle of the Fort Tyron Medieval Festival, Their Excellencies Angelica and Sofya did hold court. First, they attended to the matter of the selection of Østgarðr’s new Armored Combat champion, calling in their previous champion Padraig O’Bradaig, called Samson, to announce the results of the contest. Samson completed his duties by passing on the honor to Albrecht Anker, who had showed great prowess in besting the many competitors in the day’s tournament.

Their Excellencies then invited up Ervald LeCoudre Edwardson the Optimistic to pass on the honors granted for two previously awarded awards: the scroll for his Silver Tyger that was previously granted during one of the Kingdom’s Ethereal courts and his scroll and medallion for his Silver Lantern, granted two Viceregencies ago for his skills in the bardic realm.

Completing their award business, Their Excellencies called up Pia Maletestra d’Rimini, called Erlan, to be inducted into the Order of the Seahorse for her continuous service to the Province; business that this time was only previously slated for two courts ago.

Continuing onto resolving previous business, Their Excellencies did request that the populace in attendance be awarded two Sea Stars: one for their role in today’s event and one for the populace’s service in making The Feast of John Barleycorn and Østgarðr Investiture a success.

Mathghamhain Ua Ruadhain was also invited up to speak as the event steward and was given many thanks for his continued work in making the Cloisters Demo a success for many years.

And this concludes all the business conducted during Their Excellencies court, held during the Cloisters Demo in the Canton of Whyt Whey on the second of October A.S. 57.

Østgarðr Fencing & Fighter Practice – Fall 2022

NOTE: With cold weather, the outdoor practice season has ended for the year. Please check out our Winter Indoor Fighter Practice: https://ostgardr.eastkingdom.org/winter-indoor-fighter-practice-2022/

——

Join the NYC chapter of the Society for Creative Anachronism for our weekly outdoor practice, held on Tuesdays (weather permitting) in McCarren Park.

  • Do you want to learn to fight like the knights of the middle ages? Our Armored Combat practice is a full contact sport. We fight with heavy wooden weapons made from rattan and wear metal and leather armor for protection.
  • Do you want to learn fine control of the blade like the duelists of the Renaissance? Our Historical Fencing practice is a limited-contact sport. We fight with light metal swords and wear protective gear and fencing masks to keep each other safe.

We meet on the third ballfield, close to the center entrance from Driggs Avenue; visit our directions page for maps: https://ostgardr.eastkingdom.org/directions/mccarren-park/

Newcomers are welcome! Please contact the provincial Knight Marshal, Lord Ervald at knightmarshal@ostgardr.eastkingdom.org or the provincial Fencing Captain, Lord Alexander at fencer@ostgardr.eastkingdom.org to confirm times for the practice and to arrange for loaner equipment.

As we move into cooler, wetter weather, please check the Østgarðr Facebook page or email the marshals above to confirm that the practice is happening.

As of October 1, 2022 there are no masking requirements, but those who wish to wear masks are welcome to do so.

Although the SCA complies with all applicable laws to ensure the health and safety of our event participants, we cannot eliminate the risk of exposure to infectious diseases during in-person events. By participating in the in-person events of the SCA, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks. You agree to take any additional steps to protect your own health and safety and those under your control as you believe to be necessary.

  • Are all items out of Lada and Suuder’s storage? Not yet, which led to the Seneschal leading the discussion on storage.

Seneschal

Storage:

The Green and white tent is in his car, but he doesn’t have anywhere to put it. The financial committee needs to meet to discuss this. The question was asked if there was room in the Westchester facility. Not a lot. Baron Ian is stepping down as Chamberlain, but we can still keep stuff in storage. An in-depth discussion began about what we have as Provincial property, where it is being stored, whether we can throw anything out and how much storage would cost.

The question was asked do we need a chamberlain position? Sounds like we do. If we don’t, we should at least put items on a shared list. A suggestion was made to put a list together of everything that’s needed and where it is. Can we afford storage? Long island city was found to be central in the past.

Can the finance committee consider paying for the storage? We generally maintain the same income yearly, so can we afford the added expense? The idea of a trailer was mentioned. Pros and cons. One outright cost would be cost-effective in the long run, but where do we store it? Do we have anyone?  Registration issues. Safety issues (locks need to be purchased).

Albrecht volunteered to serve as committee head to look into what we have and take inventory.

Congratulations
