Come to the Ethereal Feast of the Fireflies — August 14

Greetings to the populace of Østgarðr!

The Canton of Brokenbridge is inviting you all to our Ethereal Feast of the Fireflies.

As we stand in the dusk of the pandemic, we long for the Pennsic Potluck, that magical night at camp where we get together, bring food, and make merry with our chosen time-traveling family. While a paltry replacement, Brokenbridge wants to make an attempt to recreate that night to hold us out for our final year of solitude. This includes tent backdrops, candle light, party games, and a box of goodies delivered to your door!

WHEN: August 14th starting at 6:00 pm Eastern Time.

WHERE: Online via Zoom. Pre-register to receive the link.

REGISTRATION: https://forms.gle/vDtwXHoHxsku3dhr7
• With kit: Cost is $10. Maximum of 24 kits, first-come first-served. Must register by August 6th.
• Without kit: free.

KIT: The package will include a backdrop-making kit, swag, a printed games booklet, and a recipe booklet. If you are opting in for a kit, you MUST pre-register by August 6th.

Going kit-less? Choose an appropriate Zoom virtual background, or create your own Pennsic-themed setting!

POT LUCK: Since we can’t physically bring our own food to the potluck, we’ll be bringing recipes! We will be collecting people’s favorites and you can download your copy soon! If you have a recipe you want to share, please reach out to me or Randve L’il Hammar.

Feel free to prepare something! But bring your food – we shall be feasting together so that we can be asked questions just as we’re putting food in our mouths!

Drinking is encouraged! So don’t forget a bottle of your favorite!

Best,

— Ragnarr Bliskegg
— Seneshal of Brokenbridge

Fencing Practice Joins Armored Combat

With the coming of summer, Østgarðr’s fencers and rattan fighters have joined forces for a combined weekly practice in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park.

Practice is generally held every Tuesday starting at 7:00 PM, but may be cancelled due to weather or schedule conflicts; for confirmation, check our Facebook group or email the armored combat marshal or fencing marshal to be sure the practice is on.

We generally meet by the cluster of trees on the right foul line of the third ballfield, close to the center entrance from Driggs Avenue; visit the McCarren directions page for a map.

Upcoming Solar, June 19 — Seahorse Origami

[Crossposting Berakha bat Mira v’Shlomo’s announcement on the Whyt Whey site.]

Michele the Ubiquitous of the Canton of Hawkes Reache joins us to teach us how to make an Origami seahorse and hippocampus! Origami is a period art of folding paper to make three-dimensional models.

Michele created the hippocampus model for Alexandre and Eularia’s investiture since she couldn’t find a seahorse model that captured the look of a seahorse from a medieval bestiary.

BE SURE TO READ THE HANDOUT IN ADVANCE FOR IMPORTANT DETAILS!

You can find the class handout here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/10LA03ySI_cPUiAEtF3bJJfOSqumHrQIo/view

Please join us here at 8PM on Saturday June 19: https://meet.google.com/otq-vnjr-qfk

Michele the Ubiquitous lives in the Canton of Hawkes Reache in the Barony of An Dubhaigheainn with her lord Robert d’Whitmont, and Smoky the murder bunny (the Vicereine’s lepus defensorem).  She has served as Canton A&S Minister & Seneschal.  Before moving to Hawkes Reache, Michele lived in Unclaimed Crown Lands (Jersey City) and Whyte Whey.  She is known for her enthusiasm for the textile arts and her ability to convince people to join in her wild and woolly IDEAS!  Notably entering the Fleece to Shawl Competition at the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival with a team composed of other textile artists from East Kingdom in GARB and hosting a Pennsic U Pity workshop, where she convinced a group of friends to help her conduct a study of how cochineal reacts to various mordants and after baths for just a couple of examples.

Michele has leveraged her experience teaching origami in the mundane world into the SCA, by teaching origami at events and gatherings within the SCA.  These include, but are not limited to, A&S nights in Brokenbridge & Hawkes Reache, Hrim Schola, Pennsic, and various demos.
