East Kingdom Masking Requirements – Effective August 9th

This is a reposting of the announcement as published on 8/6/2021 on the East Kingdom Gazette Website https://eastkingdomgazette.org/2021/08/06/east-kingdom-masking-requirements/

Populace of the East,

We ask you all to join us in acting to protect the people of the East, to put the well-being of the people of the Society first.

We have enjoyed the opportunity to begin to gather in person. Our first priority has always been the safety of the people of the East, and through safe practices, Our hope is to continue to have the opportunity to gather for events, meetings, and practices.

With concern over rising COVID-19 rates, especially the Delta strain, We will be requiring masking at all official East Kingdom in-person gatherings of any size or type (practices, meetings, events).

Effective August 9, all attendees over the age of 2, including vaccinated individuals, at indoor activities will be required to to be masked at all times. At outdoor activities masks will be required for all non-fighting activities. If an individual is not actively involved in combat at an outdoor venue, they are required to wear a mask. Masks may be lowered briefly when eating or drinking. The mask must be worn properly over the nose and mouth and be recognizable as an effective mask.

Returning to wearing masks brings Us no joy, but safely must be Our primary focus. We want to keep the options and activities everyone has worked so hard to earn back. The ability to safely gather has been Our goal, and the cost of continuing to safely gather is mask requirements.

We hope that this allows people to continue to participate in the SCA with a reduced risk to their health. We know it’s not easy, but now is the time to act with responsibility for the good of the East. Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Northpass Suspension

Greetings All,

By now many of you have heard that our Canton of Northpass has been suspended for 1 year. There are still some details that have to be hammered out regarding the stewardship of the Canton’s funds and property. We are working to make sure it’s all done properly thru kingdom and society.

During this suspension period any and all activities that were happening under the Canton will now be sponsored by the Province. This includes events, classes, demos etc. If anyone from the Canton was planning any other events they will need to be approved by the Province. I’d like to ask the autocrats to reach out to me so I can get the events onto the next Provincial Commons Agenda.

I would encourage those who were a part of the Canton to become more active with the Province itself. I know that the Canton of Northpass has over the years developed a sense of being isolated, especially with drive times and distances. But you are all still residents of Ostgardr. Please come to activities and events that are held throughout the Province. I encourage all residents of the Crown Province to travel to the activities held in our northern reaches to support our populace there. I would also encourage anyone who is willing to volunteer at local events and for officer and deputy positions. Ostgardr wants Northpass to become a stable and active canton again. Myself, Their Excellencies, the Provincial Officers and the rest of the Province look forward to working with everyone towards that goal.

In Service,
Alexander MacLachlan
Acting Seneschal of Ostgardr
