A New Acting Chatelaine and Accepting Chatelaine Candidates

I would like to extend my thanks to Lord Albrecht Anker for his service as Provincial Chatelaine and for his continuing service to the Province. I would also like to thank Armiger Catelin Straquhin for stepping up as our Acting Chatelaine.

The Province is accepting nominations for Chatelaine until December 26th. If there are no other candidates, in accordance with our charter, the Provincial Officers will vote starting on December 27th and ending December 31st.

If there is another candidate, then the election will be open to the populace of Østgarðr who are registered members of the SCA and are at least 14 years old. The earliest the election would take place will be January 28th.

Coming in January: Indoor Fighting & Fencing Practice

We are excited to host our first indoor winter fighter practice!
Join us at the Kingsland Bar & Grill 269 Norman Ave #3634, Brooklyn, NY 11222 on Sunday 1/14 from 12 to 3pm.

*Do you want to learn to fight like the knights of the middle ages? Our Armored Combat practice is a full contact sport. We fight with heavy wooden weapons made from rattan and wear metal and leather armor for protection.

*Do you want to learn fine control of the blade like the duelists of the Renaissance? Our Historical Fencing practice is a limited-contact sport. We fight with light metal swords and wear protective gear and fencing masks to keep each other safe.

The practice will be held in a 1-on-1 duelist format to get us ready for Birka tourneys both the fencing and Bear Pit armored combat.

AMENITIES:
– PARKING! plenty of street parking right by the venue.
– Bathrooms on site
– Indoor heated location to change in
– Brick over pizza and a full bar to celebrate our success afterwards

Suggested donation $10 per person

SPACE RESTRICTIONS: Due to space restrictions no pole arms or spears will be allowed

I must admit, I dropped the ball.

Usually, I’m all about sharing the awesome stuff our community does, but after having a blast cheering on our fighters at 100 Minutes War, I totally spaced on coming back to spread the joy and pride of the day.

Furthermore, I failed to communicate the well-deserved recognition bestowed upon two of our esteemed citizens by Their Majesties.

Congratulations to Zahra de Andaluzia for her induction into the Order of the Maunche and Abu-Duruz Ibrahim al-Rashid ibn Musa al-Rashid for his induction into the Order of the Golden Rapier. Their achievements are truly commendable, and I apologize for not promptly celebrating and sharing these moments of honor and accomplishment.

Ostgardr Provincial Officer Election 2023 – Voting Information Included

Provincial Seneschal Election

The Crown Province of Østgarðr is currently holding elections for the position of Seneschal (local chapter president). The winner of this election will hold the office for a two year term, beginning January 1, 2023.

There are two candidates for the office (listed below with links to their respective letters of intent for the office and East Kingdom Wiki pages):

Nagashima Ichiro Ujimichi (called Uji) Letter of Intent; Wiki

All Østgarðrians 14 years old or older who are currently registered members of the SCA, are eligible and encouraged to vote for the candidate they would prefer to have as Seneschal of Østgarðr. Voting ends on December 19, 2023. To vote, please complete the online form linked below:

Please note, due to ongoing issues with the SCA member database, you may be asked in a follow-up email to confirm your membership status.

Additionally, there are seven other Provincial officer positions where only one candidate stepped forward to serve during the nomination period. They are:

Marshal of Fence: Alexander MacLachlan
Youth Marshal: Arnora Ketilsdottir
Webminister: Antonius Gracus (called Twyg)
Historian: Mathghamhain Ua Ruadháin

When only one candidate has stepped forward for an officer position, the Provincial Officers Council votes on the approval of the candidates in accordance with the Provincial Charter (section V.H). The results of this vote by the Officers council, will be announced at the Provincial Commons meeting on December 20, 2023.

With the upcoming officer election we have 2 candidates for the Crown Province of Ostgardr Seneschal office.
Candidates are:

We will hold a virtual Meet the Candidates night to have give the populace an opportunity to get to know the candidates and as them questions.

When: Wednesday 11/29/2023, 7:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.

When there is more than candidate for an office all residents of the Crown Province who are paid members over the age of 14 are able to vote in the election. Election will be held via electronic ballot.
