Annal for A.S. XLVIII (5/13 – 4/14)

The Viking Day Demo was held on May 18. At the Feast of John Barleycorn in Northpass on September 7, Ibrahim al-Rashid became the Fencing Champion; Helga Nielsdottir became the Archery Champion; and Wolfgang der Sucher became the Thrown Weapons Champion. Also at that event, John the Bear was named a Silver Sea Lion for his contributions and skill in thrown weapons.

On June 1, Subotai Cinoa became the seneschal of Whyt Whey, and on September 1, Richard the Poor of Ely took over as exchequer.

A demo was held at the Queens County Fair on September 21 and 22. Season’s Beatings was held on February 1.

At Mudthaw on March 22, Lada Mongguligan was honored with a Silver Crescent and Luis de Castilla was honored with a Knighthood.

At some point during this year, Eilionora inghen ui Ruairc took over as Seneschal.

Regularly Schedule Practices: Archery

Sundays

  • Archery Practices: All archery practices listed below require traditional bows without modern accessories, and wooden shaft arrows. Loaner gear is available for newcomers on a first-come-first-serve basis.
    Staten Island, Willowbrook Park
    Run by Lord Suuder of Silver Horde. These practices are posted on the local email lists, with cancellations the morning of the practice if weather interferes. Practices generally start between 1-1:30, and end whenever people get tired. There are barbeque pits and picnic areas near the range, so there can be other activities at this practice, including heavy weapons practice. There is ample parking. This is a free practice. No crossbows are allowed per NYS law. Directionshere.
    Nassau County, Long Island, Cedar Creek Park
    Run by Lady Arnbjorg Nilsdottir. These practices are posted on the local email lists, with cancelations the morning of the practice if weather interferes. There is ample parking, and after Memorial Day, if you are not a Nassau County resident, the park charges a $10 parking fee. The practice itself is free. No crossbows per NYS law.

Officer Positions

  • Seeking event steward and other crew chiefs for the “Test of An Dubhaigeainn and Østgarðr”, to take place in early June 2014. If you’re interested, please contact viceroy@ostgardr.orgvicereine@ostgardr.org, and seneschal@ostgardr.org.
  • A number of Østgarðr officer positions will expire at the end of December; see list of openings and procedures for nomination below.

The following positions on the Ostgardr Officer Council will have their terms end on December 31, 2013:

All those gentles interested in serving in one of these positions, including all current officers seeking to renew for an additional two year term must submit a letter of intent to the Viceregents and the seneschal by November 15, 2013. The letter of intent must include:

The list of candidates for each position will be posted by November 20, 2013. Approval of candidates will happen after that date with officers being selected by and beginning their new terms on January 1, 2014.

Annal for A.S. XLVII (5/12 – 4/13)

It was another busy summer for demos: Viking Day on May 12, Riverdale Riverfest on June 24, Queens County Fair on September 22 and 23, and the Cloisters on September 30. At the Cloisters, M. Antonius Scaevola became the Champion of Armored Combat.

In the autumn, a new procedure for officer terms and elections was put in place. All offices would be on two-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms. The major Provincial offices were put on a schedule to change over at the beginning of the calendar year, with the offices divided on alternate years so that there would never be a huge changeover of key offices in any one year. At the start of 2013, several offices changed hands. The new officers were:

A “Musician’s Day” event was held on January 23, after having been postponed from the previous November.

The Province hosted Crown Tournament on April 27. During Viceregal court, Lord Suuder was made a Sea Lion, Melanie de la Tour and Ysenda MacBeth were inducted into the Order of the Seahorse, and Þòrmundr inn Iandverski was made a Sea Dog.

Annal for A.S. XLVI (5/11 – 4/12)

Demos were held at the Viking Day Festival on May 14, the Riverdale Riverfest on June 12, Queens County Fair on September 24 and 25, and the Cloisters on October 2.

At Pennsic, Wilhelm of Northpass received a Maunche. Both Oscad de Segovia and Guy avec Chevaux received the accolade of Knighthood; the former at East Kingdom court and the latter on the Field.

At the Barleycorn event on September 10, the Viceregency was passed to Sir Gui avec Cheveaux and Johanna ap Visby. Mistress Eularia Trewe was inducted into the Order of the Seahorse. Championship tourneys were held; the winners were John the Bear (Thrown Weapons), Edwin Fletcher (Archery), and Brendan Firebow (Fencing). Þòrmundr inn Iandverski became the Seneschal of Brokenbridge in November.

A Schola was held on November 5. At Season’s Beatings in Brokenbridge on December 3, Devra the Baker was made a Companion of the Sea Dog. Also at that event, Lord Llewellyn ap Rhys was the first inductee into the Order of the Sea Lion, an order for both prowess in the martial arts, and leadership and training in those arts. The motto for the order is “I Go Forth, so that Others Might Follow”.

On February 18 at the Lions End event, “Lions on the Silk Road”, Lile Dubh inghean ui Mordh became the Province’s Bardic Champion.

Annal for A.S. XLV (5/10 – 4/11)

At Viceregal Court at Pennsic, Seahorses were given to Cian mac Fearguis and Margarita Ivanovna Novgorodetsa. Ysenda Macbeth took over as Seneschal and Suuder became the Captain of Archers in July. Wilhelm of Northpass became Seneschal for that canton and Francesco Gaetano Greco of Edessa became the Herald in September. At John Barleycorn on Sept. 11, Lady Marion of York was given a Grant of Arms and Lady Conandil was made a Companion of the Maunche. The Provincial Champions Tourneys were also held at Barleycorn; the winners were Guy de Cheval (Heavy Weapons), Friderich Grim (archery), Wolfgang der Sucher (Thrown Weapons), and Yeh-lu Targai (Fencing). Lady Lile Dubh inghean ui Mordh was chosen Arts & Sciences Champion in April.

Demos were held a the Queens County Fair on Sept. 18 and at the Cloisters Renaissance Fair on Oct. 2. Warrior’s Nadaam was held on Oct. 16, at which time Alaric Jager von Bremen was inducted into the Order of the Laurel.

Oscad de Segovia was inducted into the Order of the Tygers Combattant at Coronation on Sept. 25.

At Provincial Commons in October, Alexandre and Eularia formally announced their intention to step down as Viceroy and Vicereine. Immediately, Friderich Grimm and Lile dubh inghean ui Mordha, as well as Suuder and Lada, announced their candidacy. Guy avec Chevaux and Johanna ap Visby tossed their hats into the ring later.

A “Collegium Musica” was held at Blue Mountain Trail Lodge on the weekend of November 20. Vicereine Eularia Trewe was given the Order of the Pelican at Mudthaw on March 26.

Annal for A.S. XLIV (5/09 – 4/10)

In June, Melanie de la Tour became the Seneschal of Whyt Whey. At the Northern Region War Camp on July 4, Lady Lile Dubh inghean ui Mordh received her Silver Crescent. At Pennsic, Judith the Uncertain received a Maunche and Alexandre d’Avigne was made a Master of the Laurel. Demos were held at the Queens County Fair on September 19 and the Cloisters Renaissance Fair on October 3.
