Come to the Scribal Workshop

As we progress through our workshops we will cover all aspects of pre-17th century calligraphy and illumination.

The workshop will be at City League Coffee Roasters located at 6808 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11220. It is a great local coffee shop with delicious brews, yummy treats and plenty of work space. We have access to the space in exchange for patronizing the coffee shop.

This workshop we will continue to focus on learning the painting portion of medieval manuscript art. We will cover sketching out our designs and painting techniques.

I will have a limited supply to borrow. If you can’t get everything, focus on paint brushes and palettes as that’s one thing I do not have a lot of to share.

A&S Meeting and Public Demo in New Rochelle

The SCA will have an A&S meeting on Saturday April 8th, 2023, from 11
AM to 3 PM, in the meeting room of the New Rochelle Public Library.

The central project will be painting heraldic banners of the Northpass
populace badge.  Leather working, Calligraphy and Illustration, and
Medieval Games will lend additional interest to the gathering.  All
are invited.   As this meeting is in a public place, we may attract
members of the general public.  We will have brochures and business
cards on hand for any who demonstrate interest in our activities.

Please be aware that the library does not permit food or drink in the
meeting room.

The meeting room is the backstage area of library’s auditorium,
accessed by a door off the main lobby.

The library is located at 1 Library Plaza, New Rochelle, NY 10801, in
southeastern Westchester County.

There is metered public parking (three hour maximum), both on street
and in a lot nearby (pay by licence plate at a cash/credit card kiosk,
or through the smartphone app ParkMobile).
The library is also within easy walking distance from the New Rochelle
Metro North train station;  from the train platform ascend either the
stairs or in the elevator to the upper level of the station, and
proceed directly to the only street exit, crossing the street straight
ahead, then walking a full block to Library Green, and a bit further
to the actual library.    There are short flights of stairs to the
library, and between the Library Green entrance and the meeting room.

Taci e Balla! Renaissance Dance Workshop & Practice

Taci e Balla, shut up and dance! Please join us in rehearsing our steps as we anticipate the spring ball season. As with traditional country dances of 15th C England, we begin with bransles: double, single, Cassandre & Pinagay. If you can step to your left and to your right, and sometimes do a little kick in the air, you are ready to rumba! Er, I mean bransle! (Pronounced brawl, and can indeed become quite lively.)
