No Fencing at McCarren Park Practice this week.

From the Provincial Fencing Marshal

“Greetings All,

I won’t be able to make it this week, so there will be no fencing practice this coming Tuesday.I’ve already e-mailed her Excellency, and she will take videos of us at a future practice.Practice will resume on Tuesday, September 7th.

In service,

Alexander MacLachlan”

Central Park Picnic — Sunday, August 1

Denizens of Whyt Whey and the surrounding lands, join us for a park picnic to celebrate the summer and spend time in good company after so long apart!

We will gather on Sunday, July 25, starting at 2:00 PM — unless the weather is inclement, in which case we will announce a postponement to the following Sunday, August 1.

[UPDATE, July 25: the weather forecast for this afternoon has been downgraded to “scattered thunderstorms,” so it looks like we need to push our picnic back to the rain date, next Sunday, August 1. The long-range forecast suggests next Sunday will be dry and pleasant — I look forward to seeing you all then!]

[UPDATE, August 1: Today’s weather is looking pleasant — comfortable temperatures and no rain until late in the day — so we’re moving ahead with our picnic plans for this afternoon. Pack your lunch and join us at 2:00 on the Great Hill!]

Volunteer Opportunity: Provincial Webminister

I was appointed as Provincial Webminister on an acting basis when the previous office holder moved away earlier this summer, and although I enjoy doing this work, I already have too many things on my plate, so I am recruiting volunteers to take on the role.

If you’re interested in the position, please speak up at Commons this evening, or reach out to me directly.

I’d love to take on one or two people as deputies as soon as possible, and then turn the office over to one of them as of the August meeting. Of course, I’ll still be around, and am glad to provide ongoing support and assistance as needed.

Attached below are a job description and some notes about the tools and tasks involved — and of course, if you have any questions that aren’t answered here, please don’t hesitate to ask me!

Fencing Practice Joins Armored Combat

With the coming of summer, Østgarðr’s fencers and rattan fighters have joined forces for a combined weekly practice in Brooklyn’s McCarren Park.

Practice is generally held every Tuesday starting at 7:00 PM, but may be cancelled due to weather or schedule conflicts; for confirmation, check our Facebook group or email the armored combat marshal or fencing marshal to be sure the practice is on.

We generally meet by the cluster of trees on the right foul line of the third ballfield, close to the center entrance from Driggs Avenue; visit the McCarren directions page for a map.

Tuesday Night Armored Combat Practice

As a reminder, our weekly armored combat practice takes place on Tuesdays at 7 PM, weather permitting, at the McCarren Park ballfields in the north end of Brooklyn.

Pre-registration is required; this week’s signup sheet is located here: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0c45a8ac2aa1fcc61-maccaren.

For additional details, visit the Fighter Practice in New York City Facebook group, or email the marshal of armored combat.

Resuming Armored Combat Practice

The province’s regularly-scheduled armored combat practice resumed this week.

Covid safety protocols are in place as required by the Society and modern authorities; among other things, pre-registration is required, masks must be worn, and there is no shared food or water.

Location and dates are posted to the Fighter Practice in New York City Facebook group, or you may email the marshal of armored combat for details.

All are welcome!

Video is optional, so you can disable your camera if you prefer, or use the numbers provided on that page to call in by phone.

This is a casual gathering; period garb is not required.
