 Officers Reports

Seneschal (Francesco): K&Q want to move Pennsic Court from Weds. to either Tues. or Thurs. (to avoid conflict w/Midnight Madness); they want feedback from the Populace.  Discussion.

Historian (Richard the Poor): None.

Fencing (Marion): Not running for another term.  We may have a practice space on Sunday afternoons in Levittown.

Lions End (Brekke): Working on June 2 demo; will need a bunch of Ostgardr help, especially hands-on child-friendly stuff.  Discuss fighting, G&W vs. pop-ups, etc.  There’s a $ stipend.  Brekke stepping down as Seneschal in June.

Fighting (Ervald): Outdoor practice over for the season.  Still negotiating insurance with potential practice site at Sussman Automatic.  Seamus has mostly finished making 5 suits of loaner armor.  Will invite fighters to June 2 demo.

Chamberlain (Ian): Cooking gear in Northpass.  Green & white pavilion is still in Whyt Whey.

Chatelaine (report via Sofya): Gold Key is in good shape, at Sofya’s place.  If you need Gold Key, contact Chatelaine well in advance, and make sure you return it.

MoAS (Sofya): Preparing for K&Q A&S & Bardic Championship.  Participate!

Youth Combat (Mathghamhain): Not much happening, as kids are in high-school-admission flurry.

Chronicler (Rufina): Recap from Nov Commons: considering supplying some old Seahorses for display at EK/Og 50Y, and also creating a “Best Of the Seahorse” handout.

Upcoming Events

A&S Bardic (Sofya): We’re hosting.  Preregister if possible: we want to minimize lines at the door because it’ll be cold.  Help out, wherever you are.

EK/Ost 50Y (Sofya): 27-30 June.  Want to look good.  Judith will organize recorded music; would also like live performances of music, mumming, drama, etc.  Artifacts by some time in April.

Upcoming meetings: January at Alienor’s.  February possibly at Sofya’s. March undecided.

Officer Elections

We have nine officers present and ten proxies.

Non-Contested Offices

Web: unanimous Alienor
Herald: unanimous Mathghamhain
Chronicler: unanimous Rufina
Fencing: unanimous Alec

Seneschal

Brief discussion of voting procedure: secret written ballots with one name on each.  No decision in advance on whether the plurality wins, or there’s a second round omitting the last place finisher, or what.

Fortunately, there was a majority on the first ballot: Alienor is the new Seneschal.

Directions to January Østgarðr Commons

January Østgarðr Commons will be Friday, January 19th at 7:30PM at 255 W. 105th St., #21 (at Broadway).  Contact:  (917) 204-1175.  The building is on the northwest corner of 105th St. at Broadway, above Henry’s (restaurant). Tell the doorman you are here for An Evening in the Solar. The elevator is around the doorman’s desk, to the Broadway side of the lobby. 2nd floor, exit the elevator, *turn around to your right*, enter door beside elevator.

By Public Transit

By Subway

The closest subway stop is 103rd St., on the #1 train. Walk uptown to 105th St., turn left. Building is on the north (uptown) side of 105th St.

By Subway & Bus (NO STAIRS Option)

Take your best route to the 1/2/3 96th St. stop. Exit using the elevator. Cross Broadway uptown to its east side, north of 96th St. Board the uptown M104 bus. Exit at 105th St. Cross Broadway. Enter building. Take elevator to 2nd floor…

By Bus

The final stop of the M60 (select bus service from Queens) is on the northeast corner of this block, at the KFC. The LGA-bound bus, for your return trip, picks up in front of the Duane Reade, diagonally across Broadway & 106th St.

The M104 Broadway bus stops on Broadway between 105th and 106th (uptown bus at the Silver Moon bakery; downtown bus at Smoke Jazz club).

By LIRR, NJ Transit or Metro-North (west of the Hudson)

Train to Penn Station. Transfer to the subway & take the uptown #1 train to 103rd St.

By Metro-North (east of the Hudson)

Train to Harlem-125th St. Take the downtown M60 Select Bus from 125th at Park Ave. (turn left as you exit the station & stay on the north side of 125th St.) to the end of the line. For Select buses, you pay your fare before boarding the bus, at the fare collection machines on the sidewalk, using a MetroCard or coins ($2.75).

By Car

Enter Manhattan using your best route — from NJ or parts west or south use the George Washington bridge, from parts north use the Henry Hudson parkway — then take the West Side Highway to 96th St.

From 96th St., turn left on Broadway. Drive uptown to 105th St. and turn left.

The building is on your right. You may drop off your passengers here.

Please note, there is no on-site parking.  You may look for parking on nearby neighborhood streets, but often the simplest option is to park along Riverside Drive and walk to the site.

(To reach Riverside Drive from the site, continue west along 105th St. to the end of the next block. Turn right onto “upper” Riverside Dr. Continue to 110th St. / Cathedral Parkway. Turn left at the stop sign and then left at the traffic lights, onto “lower” Riverside Dr. Between 108th and 103rd streets you should find plenty of spots on either side of the drive. Use stairs at 106th St. or sidewalk at 104th St. to return from Riverside to West End Avenue, then proceed to 105th St.)

Did You Know?

The Crown Province of Østgarðr has a badge, "A seahorse erect azure, hoofed, orbed and crined Or," that residents of the Crown Province have been using, de facto, as a "populace badge" for many years.  You could wear it on your hat, or paint it on your goblet, or embroider it on a pennon.  Let your Østgarðrian Spirit Flag fly!
