    1. Vicereine,THLady Lada Monguligin
      1. We would like to host an event for the upcoming East Kingdom 50 Year and Ostgardr 50 Year, which is coming up in 2018. Can we host 12th Night that year? Maybe in Staten Island where East Kingdom started?
      2. We need to do research on affordable sites. A discussion was held regarding approximate prices for different locations, and the group is reminded that there is a formula for considering how much your event will cost.
        1. Most places will charge by the hour, and so that needs to be taken into consideration. Some places, such as churches, will have additional costs per hour, for outside members and organizations<
        2. Those places without a liquor license will have to be dry sites.
    2. Arts and Sciences, THLady Lada, Lady Sofya

      1. Reports are filed, arts are happening, more will be discussed as part of Chatelaine report<
    3. Whyt Whey, Lady Alienor Salton.
      There is nothing to report.

    4. Seneschal, Barone Francesco

      1. We are holding a meeting this month, but are taking December off for the holidays.
      2. I have asked the Viceregals whether they would like to have their comments before or after the Officers' Reports during Commons Meetings. As the Viceregals prefer before, their comments will be made before the Officers' Reports at all Commons Meetings on and after this one.
    5. Chronicler, Magistra Rufina.

      1. Please remember to submit information to the Seahorse. The populace is reminded that it is the official form of communication and information dissemination of the Province.

      1. Occasional fencers show up at McCarren Park practice. Alec runs it when people show. It is usually just him and one other.
      2. Inwood practice should be starting shortly. It's officially not an SCA practice. It's a small school group focusing on historical fencing and not everyone involved will necessarily be SCA
        1. This means that people will not need to use the armor and weapons requirements of the SCA in order to fence at this practice.

Youth Combat News

This autumn has seen the return of local martial activities for our younger members of Østgarðr. We had respectable turnouts for Barleycorn in September, and at Goat’s Tavern in October. We were also able to include youth combat in the demonstrations at the Cloisters and Queens Farm, which were well received by the public.

The pace will slow as we move into the colder months, but we’re hoping to hold some more local practices if we can find space out of the weather. And of course we're looking forward to events further afield over the winter, including 100 Minutes War in Rusted Woodlands, Birka in Stonemarche, and Mudthaw in Settmour.

If you’re organizing an event in Østgarðr and have space to include youth combat, contact youthmarshal@whytwhey.eastkingdom.org to see if we can arrange it. And if you’re between the ages of six and sixteen, we hope to see you on the field soon!

Provincial Heraldic History

While at  the Queens Farm demo, I asked Baron Yehuda whether there was a populace badge registered for Østgar∂r, as I hadn't found one in the armory, and in the subsequent discussion, Baron Ian reported that there had been a badge registered for the populace in the past, although perhaps it wasn't labeled as such.

I recently wrote a few pages about Østgarðr’s provincial heraldry that might be of interest to E-horse readers.

I’m hoping to find images of these designs in actual use in previous decades, to put together a provincial armorial history in time for the 50th anniversary, so if anyone has old photographs of banners or copies of the newsletters from the ‘70s, ‘80s, or ‘90s, I’d love to see and share them!
