Transcribed by Stephen Bloch at Lavada's home in Peekskill Tom Martin running the meeting, because Gy DG has bronchitis Attendance: Thomas Martin Richard Solensky Angela Ferber Maria Dedvukaj Piglet Evans Alec Story Stephen Bloch Deborah Peters Luigj Kapaj Mitch Krevor David Minsky Carol Smith Lavada Nahon Exchequer: Richard handed stuff to Viceroy & resigned his office. Angelica, the new Exchequer, accepted stuff & promised to do the job Chatelaine (Sofya): Demo for "First Contact" in Astoria tomorrow. Hands-on, for audience of writers. Would like to plan workshop for Gold Key; Jackie is out of commision, so Sofya will run it herself some Sunday. Other kinds of workshops? Think of it as an all-day workshop, with preregistration, class schedule, etc. At Sofya's home (or somebody's). Canton people, assess interest in your groups. Seneschal of Whyt Whey (Piglet): had commons a few days ago. No exciting news. Just lost an Exchequer to Ostgardr; Ibrahim is replacing her (warranted by Kingdom, but waiting on bank paperwork). Webmaster (SB): creating more office e-mail accounts & encouraging people to use them for anything office-related. Taking minutes (SB): Minutes will be in E-Horse, and can also be sent to the e-lists, but would rather not put them on the Facebook group because it's open to the world. Chronicler (DP): hand out excerpts of EK Chronicler Policy. We have 11 families with outstanding paid subscriptions, a total of 104 issues outstanding. We should probably refund them someday. (Mitch points out that people can donate their outstanding subscriptions.) Required and recommended contents of a local newsletter. If you have important content that needs to go into newsletter, send it to Chronicler rather than assuming she's already got it. Chamberlain (via Mitch): To her knowledge, nothing has moved in the last month, including her. Lions End (Brekke): Still have money, no plans. Northpass (Tom): Bear's Tavern around the corner. Goat's Tavern, Barleycorn planned for fall. Bear's Tavern overnight is sold out; day-trips still available. Viceroy (Guy): Viceregal poll went out quickly and efficiently. Don't have results yet. Will talk about demos under "New Events". Officers' Meeting (Sunday, 13 March): Doors open 2:00 PM; meeting will probably start more like 3:00 to make sure everybody has time to get there. Events/Other Happenings Guy going to Cloisters 10 AM Sun. 2/28, transitioning to Knights Hall for fighter practice. New Dorp, Staten Island: SF convention at high school on May 21. Do we want to do a demo? Find out whether it's opposite Viking Day demo. Possibly organize jointly with Settmour. Guy and/or Sofya will investigate. Alec: Vika and Thorfinn secured Greek Parastyle in Prospect Park for a potluck picnic mini-event May 14. Have site from 11-6; considering fighting, dancing, etc. Want to check on date of Viking Day before publicizing. Musicians' Day happened, and came out in the black (don't remember exactly how much). Discussion about how and when to make reservations. Richard has written checks to both cooks. Discussion of scheduling Seasons' Beatings for Jan/Feb 2017. A&S (Lada): Lots going on. Sofya has volunteered to replace Lada as A&S. Sofya in turn is considering four possible successors as Chatelaine. Archery (Suuder): nothing new. Brokenbridge (Suuder): Baconbridge was very successful, and is in the black. Need to arrange site for investiture. Considering Veterans Memorial Park in Carmel, or church in Long Island, or piggybacking on Barleycorn. We should hear from Crown in March or April, and will then need to coordinate w/Crown and site to get event. Next Ostgardr Commons: March 18, at Piglet’s place in Manhattan. Suggestion that the first order of business at every meeting is "Who's taking notes and doing what with them?" Meeting adjourned by consensus 9:31. ![]() Directions to March CommonsFebruary Commons will be Friday, March 18, 2016, 7:30 p.m. at the home of Piglet Evans, 255 W. 105th St., #21 (at Broadway). 917-204-1175 The building is on the north west corner of 105th St. and Broadway, above Henry's (restaurant). There is one slate of candidates, Suder Saaren and Lada Monguligan, and we are waiting (with bated breath) for the polling results. At this point (perhaps even as we speak), ballots are being tallied by the Branch Polling Deputy, a Regional Seneschal, and the Kingdom Seneschal (or designate). Talliers must not reside in the branch conducting the polling or have any other conflict of interest regarding the polling. Returned ballots may only be viewed by the talliers, the Kingdom Seneschal and/or the Kingdom Seneschal's designates, and The Crown. The outcome of the polling will be determined by a simple majority of valid returned ballots. If a polling fails to result in a simple majority, the disposition of the polling falls to The Crown. (Which it technically is anyway....) ![]() Seneschal ElectionElection of the new Seneschal of the Crown Province of Østgarðr will take place at the next meeting of the Officer Corps, on Sunday, 13 March 2016, at 2pm at the home of Lady Sofya of Østgarðr [see below]. Unlike the Meeting of the Østgarðr Commons, the Meeting of the Officer Corps are much stricter on 'who can speak and when'. Upon being recognized by the Seneschal, (running the Meeting), the indicated Officer is allowed to speak. Those who are not Officers, who wish to be recognized to speak, also must wait until recognized, but Officers have first priority. [Editor's note: The Bylaws don't address 'who can speak and when', saying only that people other than Officers may attend by invitation; I gather that the populace at large have been invited to this particular Officers' Meeting.] Officers must be present to vote, unless they specifically designate that a (1) proxy is sent in writing, (2) signed, & (3) presented to another, (not necessarily an Officer, but a representative chosen by the Officer), & (4) has formally informed the Seneschal of who will be holding their Officer's Proxy. The Seneschal of each Canton is considered to be an Officer of the Crown Province. [Editor's note: the Bylaws don't specify advance notification to the Seneschal, only that proxies must be written and confined to a single topic -- e.g. the choice of a new Seneschal.] To date (as of Monday, 18 January 2016), the Candidates for the Office of Seneschal are
Again, only current Crown Provincial Officers have a vote. If a person holds more than one Crown Provincial Office, that person only holds one vote. If an Officer will not be in attendance at the Officer Corps Meeting, then that Officer may designate another person, Officer or not, to cast their vote. Ostgardr Officer Corps:
