Meetings

Østgarðr Commons

...happened in November, but meeting minutes weren't available when the E-Horse went to press.  Inshallah, they will be available for the January newsletter....

AND REMEMBER:
By decree of the Viceregency and some subset of the Provincial Officer Corps, there is NO December Commons this year.  Do not go to John and Rufina's house the third weekend of the month, looking for Commons; you will not find it :-)

Directions to January Commons

January Commons will be the third Friday in January 2016, 7:30 p.m. at the home of Gy Dioguardi, 16 Sandy Court, Port Washington, NY 11050-1736

~ From I-495/LIE, Exit 36 North, Searingtown Road [Route 101]
~ Travel 6.2 miles: North, crossing Route 25A, (now Port Washington Boulevard), past St. Francis Hospital, past the Police Department and Downtown Port Washington...
~ ...Down the hill, up the hill, past the St. Peter's RC Church (old stone church)...
~ ...Down the hill, up the hill, down the hill, up the hill, (now Middle Neck Road), [Route 101 ends, but the road continues]...
~ Continue north past the United Methodist Church (large lawn with a tall steeple)...
~ Just past the church, make the first LEFT on Radcliff Avenue.
~ Continue to the end of Radcliffe Avenue (at the bottom of the hill).
~ Make a RIGHT (on East Soundview Drive) and a QUICK LEFT, onto Sandy Court.
~ Opposite the second left is my house (a white house with black shutters).
~ Park & go up the stairs. When you enter the house, go up the stairs, find a seat & park.

If you get lost, please call (516) 883-5870.

Eatables will be greatly appreciated.

Viceregal Succession

As a reminder, the election for Østgarðr's new Viceroy and Vicereine is coming soon. There is one slate of candidates, Suder Saaren and Lada Monguligan, and a polling ballot will be sent out to all paid members some time in January. Even though there's only one slate of candidates, we need at least 50% of the ballots to be returned in order for the poll to be considered valid. Ballots of members 14 and up will be tallied toward the outcome. Ballots from those under 14 will be included for determining validity, but not for determining the outcome. The ballots will state a deadline, which will be between 30-45 days from the time they're mailed.

After that, ballots will be tallied by the Branch Polling Deputy, a Regional Seneschal, and the Kingdom Seneschal (or designate). Talliers must not reside in the branch conducting the polling or have any other conflict of interest regarding the polling. Returned ballots may only be viewed by the talliers, the Kingdom Seneschal and/or the Kingdom Seneschal's designates, and The Crown. The outcome of the polling will be determined by a simple majority of valid returned ballots. If a polling fails to result in a simple majority, the disposition of the polling falls to The Crown. (Which it technically is anyway....)

(The Østgarðr Bylaws specify a Borda count, not a majority, but when there are fewer than three slates of candidates, they're equivalent.)

M'Lords and Ladies,

Have you a few hours to spare next Sunday December 20th?

Blue Mountain Range, headquarters for the Lodge we love, has asked for our help, as they are short handed.

It seems on their shooting range, the clay pigeons have littered the landscape and need a rake and shovel. They weigh next to nothing but there's pieces all over. It may not sound like much, but it would take 6 people all day. 12 or more however would get it done much quicker. They have rakes, gloves and such, even masks.

Take your best route to Welcher Ave., Peekskill, NY. At the top of the hill, there's a deli on the corner and the road to the lodge goes straight ahead. Turn right on Washington St., go 2.3 miles, turn left on Watch Hill Rd., go 1 mile and on the left is the Sportsman Center. Coffee and snacks in the building. Past the building are both parking and the Skeet and Trap range.

We'll start at 9:30am Sunday Dec 20th and work till it's done. The projected temp is 43°F and light clouds. I will send someone down to the train station in Peekskill if you call me at 973-202-7917.

Please come and help one of our favorite sites. Their crew is all brand new, but we've been using the archery range and lodge for more than 25 years.

I wish you all the happiest of holidays!

Yours in service,

Lord Thomas of Northpass, Seneschal
