Meetings Upcoming Events Goings On About Town Articles of Interest ![]() ![]() Ostgardr Commons16 October 2015Gy Dioguardi presiding Transcribed by Carol Eskesen Smith Officer Reports: Lions End: Exchequer's report is up-to-date; we are looking for sites to have events, including a Royal Progress for Investiture. We may have a site for Twelfth Night, but do we want to do it? Herald: Magdalena (former chatelaine of Northpass) is interested in becoming Østgarðr's next herald but will need training. Note: officers currently looking for replacements are herald and treasurer. The seneschal is moving to New Jersey and will need to be replaced; there are several interested parties willing to step up to the job. (Guy Dioguardi is one of them; the other two were not named.) Whyt Whey (via Angela): the Cloisters demo was wonderful. They are still working toward getting their own checking account, and have achieved some of the necessary paperwork to do so. Knight Marshal: Fighting practice will happen Monday evenings at McCarren Park in Brooklyn (see our Facebook page for further info). There is also the possibility of an indoor practice at the ACL site at 125th street and Broadway on Monday evening, if there is sufficient interest. It is only for an hour, though, and will cost $5.00/person. The fighting at Cloisters went well. The Beau Geste will take place as announced, most likely monthly at Grant's Tomb. (Report given by the Viceroy, and probably botched by the note-taker. See Sir Gui or Count Valgard for corrections.) Archery: Practice is ongoing on Staten Island, under Brad's or Gary's supervision, and biweekly at Cedar Creek State Park under Sherree's eyes. Cedar Creek also has atalatl. There is no thrown weapons practice, although Lions End folks(and all others willing to travel) are invited to the An Dubheaigainn practices. Broken Bridge: Nothing new; A&S is happening, we are still planning a “BaconBridge” event (all things BACON!) Lilli of the Red Towers is the exchequer. There is a new deputy seneschal, Austen Cantrell (Ragnar). A&S: Ongoing A&S nights in Whyt Whey, Broken Bridge and Northpass. Dance practice will occur weekly in Whyt Whey until it's too cold to dance, then will probably move indoors to Northpass on a less frequent basis. Our demo displays get more impressive yearly, and we have an awesomely diverse showing of many different Medieval arts. (Brekke, Katherine, and Ian were mentioned for their display of textile arts, and we have recently added woodworking, banner-making, and other diverse arts to our usual repertoire.) Lady Sofia has expressed interest in becoming Lady Lada's deputy. We do not have a site for the next meeting but should have date and time by Monday, October 19. Exchequer: The quarterly report was sent in with copies to the Viceroy and Vicereine, the seneschal, etc., as required by law and custom. Historian: History is happening; Lady Sofia received a Silver Crescent at Pennsic for her work as Chatelaine, and the awards report from Barleycorn was sent in as required by Kingdom law. Rapier Marshal: (copied from a note, since also repeated in Facebook and the e-mail list) Greetings: We have been offered space for SCA rapier practice at Sword Class NYC's space at 1944 Madison (Mad and 125th). (Thank you, Ervald!) The space would only be available Sundays between 4 PM and 6 PM, in between their classes. Cost would be $5 per head per hour. I don't know if they want a minimum number of persons to make this feasible for them. Are people interested in rapier practice on these terms? I would not be able to make every week, but would try to do so at least twice per month. Please let me know if there is interest. I can be reached at triskele2@juno.com -Marion of York Northpass (via Richard): Thomas is now officially the seneschal of Northpass. Barleycorn was successful in terms of fun, but an utter disaster in terms of cash flow. The site is very expensive, costing $3,000.00, and we are looking for ways to stop the cash hemorrage. Musician's Day is happening November 20-22 at Blue Mountain Lodge. Viceroy: The seneschal's office needs to be filled and we need to check on the status of our incipient polling. We need to know where we are and what our next step is, and the end date of our polling (which will also give us the approximate date of Their Majesties' decision and Their availability for installation, which we also need to prepare for. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
