Meetings Upcoming Events Goings On About Town Articles of Interest ![]() ![]() Ostgardr Commons18 Sept 2015Gy Dioguardi presiding Transcribed by Stephen Bloch Officers' Reports Northpass: Barleycorn was fun, so-so attendance, lost money (exact amounts not determined yet). Tom has taken over as Seneschal. Some discussion of how Canton officers should file their reports. Discussion of ways to save money on Barleycorn (shorter event, cheaper site, new activities to draw attendance, etc.) Youth fighting went well; can push this. Tavern is much tamer than it used to be, because we're all older; recognize reality and revamp the event. A&S: stuff happening. Several new-ish scribes did scrolls for Barleycorn. Lions End hosting Hawks Reache A&S meetings because they happen to have a site. Thorfinn wants to teach a brewing class somewhere in Whyt Whey (possibly his place). Jimi Lee wants to teach a stained-glass class, probably at the Kapajs'. Dates TBA in both cases. Archery: there was a fun shoot at Barleycorn. This weekend, we'll be demoing archery at Queens Farm. Brokenbridge: had a meeting. Planning an event called Baconbridge (Norana autocrat). Considering Feb. 6, looking for site. Web: not much news. Discussion of e-mail forwarding, accounts, phishing, etc. Piglet requests that I forward whytwhey to whytwhey.eastkingdom.org . Whyt Whey: Working on parking permits for Ft. Tryon demo. Starting a regular Youth Combat practice at Grant's Tomb. Piglet for WW Webminister: talked to EK webminister at Barleycorn, discussed migration. Godiva: I live a few blocks from Cloisters, so if anybody wants to leave stuff or change clothes at my apt, let me know in advance. WW Exchecquer: waiting on paperwork to set up new bank account. Chatelaine: Lots of new people asking about fencing, fighting, youth combat, etc. Keep me informed of all the newcomers you work with, what's happening in Cantons, what works & what doesn't, so I can include the info in my report to Kingdom. Need Chatelaine in Northpass. Events with youth activities should make that clear in event announcement. Diablu & his lady donated a lot of clothing; updating Gold Key inventory. Rikkert mentioned some chatelaine tricks he's used in other groups (interest cards, contact info, etc.) We're already doing many of them; limiting factors are followup and regular activities. Exchecquer: not much change. Got check from Scandinavian Museum (replacing one that bounced). Need successor to take over in January. Valgard re marshallate: no official fighter practices going on currently, and we need to fix that: shortage of marshals who could make regular practice. Serious up-and-coming fighters go to Nutley, but it's a haul, and basically impossible by public transit. Northpass had a church site, but new management hasn't yet approved the activity. Unofficial practices: piggybacking on official MSR practice in Wantagh on Thursdays, and (last spring) Acheron bar in Bushwick on Sundays (unofficial because it mixes rattan and steel -- ACL or BotN style). Meeting & small tournament at Grant's Tomb 9/27 to discuss the future of fighter practices. Other possibilities: McCarren Park, Fort Tryon. Possible indoor sites: SwordClassNYC or MSR site in Wantagh. Targai & Marion discussing fencing practice, possibly at Grant's Tomb. Had a demo at Riverfest, good small tourney at Barleycorn. Chronicler: A few new subscribers. If you're running an event or demo, contact chronicler to make sure we have correct info. Lions End: Exchequer (Arnbjorg) is having an attack of Life; may need to have Southern Regional exchequer sub for her temporarily. Discussing events to use for Viceregal Investiture. Herald: need successor. Allison & Jenna did a good job of court heraldry at Barleycorn. Chamberlain: Green &White sitting in van waiting to be put up at Queens Farm tomorrow. Events/Demos Queens Farm Faire Demo (this weekend): Cars off-site by 10:30 AM, open to public at 11:00. We don't know of any fighters or marshals coming, but they might. Fencers & archers will be there. Fort Tryon Faire Demo (Oct. 4): will need G&W there early so we can set it up before setting up anything else. Also any popups we can find (Lada & Suuder have at least two). Musicians' Day (Nov. 20-22): Brekke is chef, Wilhelm is registrar. Other Business Valgard: what's the calendar for polling? Not sure. Angelica: Teacher's College of Columbia wants to film some SCA activities (esp. rattan combat). Valgard will be contact person. Upcoming Meetings: October Commons at Gy's.
