Makeover: Pro or Con?
Musical Marginalia
Iron Age Tunic

Lutenists Online
...and War Machines,
Too
O Tannenbaum?

Now that the I’ve almost caught up on my post-event sleep
deficit, I’d like to thank the people who made Musicians’
Day such a tremendous success:
The Teachers: Mistress Deonna von Aachen, Lady
Erlandr Nordenskald, Lord Rufus Bowie, Lady Matilda of
Carolingia, Baronne Sabine de Kerbriant, Lady Isabeau
d’Orleans, and Master John Elys, for sharing their time
and talents so generously;
The Cooks: Baron Mael Eoin MacEochidh, Baroness
Ysmay de Lynn, Lady Alessandra Brucioli, and Lady Astrid
Feilan, who worked tirelessly in the face of adversity to
provide toothsome viands and sweetmeats, and helped clean
up on Sunday;
Lord Wilhelm of Northpass, who rode herd on the
reservations and cash box with panache;
Dame Judith FitzHenry, who stayed into Sunday morning to
help clean up;
and Master John Elys, Co-Steward and Spreadsheet Czar, who
was a steady, rock-solid presence and source of fun.
You folks help make this event the best early-music
slumber party in the Known World—maximas vobis gratias
ago!

Officers' Reports
Seneschal: Everybody knows about Diablu
& Lilith; proud of how the SCA has come together
to help. We got him airlifted to a level-1 trauma
center in Miami.
A&S: had demos at Queens Farm and Fort
Tryon, with lots of different arts & sciences on
display. Wood, fiber, sprang, banner-painting,
C&I, etc.
Archery: Never mind the pickle. Mongo got
Sagittarius (huge rock as scroll). Archery continuing
at demos; will continue until it’s too cold. Ghosts,
Ghouls, & Goblins on Nov. 1.
Brokenbridge: paperwork underway for
transfer of seneschalate. (Tormundr willing to be
knight-marshal; Allison Kelley considering becoming
A&S.)
Northpass: Planning fall & winter
activities: dance, fighting, A&S, archery, etc.
Web: Haven’t moved ostgardr.org to new EK
servers yet, partly because EK servers have been
having so much trouble this month. Some discussion of
whether we want to migrate.
Chatelaine: Lady Sofya is taking over full
Chatelaine duties while Diablu is medically
incapacitated.
Major event (Barleycorn) and two major demos (Queens
Farm & Fort Tryon). 35 contacts from QF, over 100
from FT. Setting up mailchimp account to make it
easier to manage contact lists, send out periodic
updates, allow people to unsubscribe if uninterested.
Need more Canton chatelaines (possibly under the
radar, if official stuff is a barrier) to talk to
people at events. Need new promo ideas, e.g. posters
at fabric stores. Held sewing class for newcomers last
night, producing tunics for Gold Key.
Lions End: 3 new officers (Dugmor as
Chatelain, Marion of York as Captain of Fence,
Dugmor’s daughter Mary as Chirurgeon). Schola event
Feb. 21. Bank account c. $3200. Knight Marshal moving
away (but that’s OK, since we have fencers and archers
and throwers). Need Deputy Seneschal. Proposal to host
Autocratting 101 class at Dec. Canton meeting (10
minutes of business, then the class) at Levittown
Public Library. First Monday.
Herald: no news.
Historian: history continues.
Whyt Whey (via Angela): Fort Tryon Faire had
70,000 people, according to City. Demo went well.
Working with Norana to get another warranted
Webminister. Commons this weekend. Grant’s Tomb
fighter practice & sewing both continue. Found
bank w/$100 minimum & free checking, on 125th
Street (Amalgamated Bank; read the fine print to make
sure of what “free” means).
Chronicler: Does anybody have a good photo
of Diablu & Lilith that I can put in next E-Horse?
Viceroy: Had an interesting chat w/NY1
reporter; considering story on Grant’s Tomb fighter
practice.
Demos
Queens Farm: went well, although ride was
moved & made flow to our area even more difficult
than usual. Mitch talked to Amy about that; it was not
her policy. Still a fun event.
Fort Tryon: There were “meal tickets”, which
you could redeem only by walking all the way down the
hill. There needed to be a big, visible “SCA” sign;
apparently at least one exists, but it wasn’t there.
Considering making more. Discussion of changing tents
and getting them there. Want to create list of stuff
that should get there, and who has it, while it’s
fresh in our memory.
Berkeley Carroll School demo: 3 hours, they
provide tables; we’ll have a time slot for fighting,
and can demo other things too. Will look into parking.
Audience is 5-11-year-olds; Cy has suitable handouts.
Unfortunately, conflicts with Florence event.
Enigma Bookstore: Still between venues, but
Maria is looking into other workshop and activity
opportunities.
Events
Florence: Will need Gold Key for at least 7
people. Wilhelm taking checks.
Winter Night Masquerade: still having date
trouble; considering move to January, but don’t want
to conflict with Seasons’ Beatings (which in turn
doesn’t want to conflict with Twelfth
Night/Bellringer’s); some difficulty getting date
reservations from Blue Mountain.
Musicians’ Day: Have given budget to Mael
Eoin, who’s probably also bringing some other
Bhakailis who like to cook. Working on class schedule.
New event: tag sale (books, CD’s, etc.) Wilhelm taking
checks.
Possible Athena's Thimble event: Athena’s
Thimble founded in Ostgardr 25 years ago; would like
to hold an appropriate event in Ostgardr to celebrate,
some time in 2015. Blue Mountain? FIT? Huntington? Mt
St Vincent? Look for embroidery-related museum
exhibits. Generally favorable discussion, leaning
towards March. Lots of negotiation left to be done.
