  From the
                  Chronicler

The Crown Province suffered a terrible blow last month when tragedy struck Lady Lilith Le Blanc and Sir Sirhan al Cyani ibn Atai Akarel Diablu at the beginning of a much-deserved vacation:  Lady Lilith was killed, and Sir Diablu gravely injured,  when their conveyance was struck by a vehicle traveling at high speed.  Our hearts go out to all the friends and loved ones of these Ostgardrians.

For those interested in writing to Sir Diablu, the address is Dwayne Herron, C/O Grace Herron, 5110 NW 75th Ave., Lauderhill FL, 33319.
Those who would like to donate to help the family with expenses may find information at http://www.rothauser.com/diablu/

September Commons Minutes

Ostgardr Commons
Sept. 19, 2014

Whyt Whey (Subotai): working on logistics (tentage, license plates, etc.) for Fort Tryon faire demo.  Discussing Whyt Whey Web presence and bank account.

Lions End (Gy): “Lion in Winter” event Feb. 21.  Dayboard only (no feast); need teachers.  New site which we haven’t used before, but it looks good.

Northpass (Wilhelm): Barleycorn went well.  Florence coming up.  Masked Ball coming up (but there’s a problem with the date, so it’ll probably change).  Thrown University coming up.

Barleycorn (Richard): Thanks to various people.

Exchequer (Richard): Guy is proposing cast-metal award medallions for Provincial awards.  Nordenfjord continues under our sponsorship; they’re putting together a bid for K&Q Bardic.

Chatelaine (Sofya): Almost ran out of Gold Key at Barleycorn; need to make more simple stuff.  To kill another bird with the same stone, make this a sewing workshop for newcomers; there are several interested in how to make garb.
Enigma Bookstore has lost its physical location, but the organization continues and would like to continue doing demos/classes with us… somewhere TBA.  Fort Tryon faire demo is coming up.

Chronicler (Rufina): There is a newsletter.  If you got it, you would have known directions to this meeting, and you would have known about a bunch of museum events in town, etc.  It’s free.

Musicians’ Day (Rufina): We were thinking of cancelling it on personal grounds, but things have changed and, after hearing from a bunch of people who were looking forward to it, we’re going ahead.  We have a chef and a registrar and a few classes.

Web (John & Norana): We haven’t redirected the ostgardr.org domain name to the new Kingdom server yet, although Norana has ported most of the Web site to it.  Just at the moment, Kingdom web servers are having problems, so we’re not in a rush to migrate, but we probably should Real Soon Now.

A&S (Lada): Reports are in.  A&S display at Barleycorn.  Upcoming demos: bring your shiny stuff to show off.

Upcoming events:
Queens County Farm Faire Demo: come out this weekend.  There will be lots of knives, arrows, axes, and perhaps atlatls flying.
Fort Tryon: come out next Sunday.  There are barriers, in case the fighters want to do a combat-at-the-barriers.
Florence: Oct. 24-26.  Food should be awesome.
Musicians’ Day: Nov. 21-23.  See above.
Seasons’ Beatings: Jan. 17-18 now conflicts with Kingdom Twelfth Night, so we’ll need to reschedule.

Nearby events:
    St. Andrew’s in An Dubh
    something in Dragonship Haven
Kingdom Twelfth Night Jan. 17 in Carillion
Artisans’ Village, June 5 2015 in Hartshorndale

New business:
Ervald was contacted by the Berkeley Carroll School in Park Slope, Brooklyn about medieval entertainment around Halloween (Saturday, Oct. 25, 12:30-3:30 PM).  Discussion; consensus that we should do a demo there.  Province will even get paid something for it.
Philip plans to offer a class on running events (several offerings of the class, in different parts of the Province).
