  • Viking Day DemoThe Viking Day Demo is fast approaching, May 17th from 10am to 5pm and preparations have already started to make it a great one.  If you have not been there before, it is at Owl's Head Park in Brooklyn.  We have a great opportunity for education and recruitment here and need to take full advantage of this.  Our on site contact for this will be me, so please  reply back to us and let us know if you plan on making it, what you wish to do at the demo, anything you think you might be bringing, shade flys, items to show, tables, that kind of thing.  Also, if you have any needs, let us know.

The festival ran from 12-5 previous years, and has moved to 10-5, to add extra time for their Viking Village, along with extra events to celebrate the Bicentennial of Norway's constitution, but we should arrive early for parking and set up, a more exact time will come for set up about a week before the demo.  9am or earlier might be necessary for parking.

The focus will be on the Arts and Sciences of the Viking Age, so anything you can bring to show that off would be outstanding.  If your talents lie elsewhere, please bring it as well so we can make this a large and exciting demo for all that attend, both ourselves, and the spectators.

We will gladly have Heavy Fighting and Fencing, but let us know if you plan on attending, so that we know how many of each we will have.  Last year we only had one heavy fighter with gear show up, which allowed for more time spent with the public which worked out well.  I would prefer to only have either form of fighting as long as we have 3+ participating, so we can put on a decent show, and have someone marshalling.  Also, the Beau Geste heavy fighting tournament and Ostgardr commons will be held at Viking day, so come out, have some fighting fun, and support the Crown province!

There will not be any thrown weapons or archery due to safety restrictions, but, feel free to bring your gear to show the public what we do, and hopefully generate some interest in coming out to play with us.

If anyone has any ideas for new ways to make this demo run more smoothly, or things that the crowd would like to hear about, I am all ears.

Thank you all, I know you will make this an outstanding demo, and I am excited to be a part of it :->.

  • Østgarðr/An Dubhaigeainn Challenge, June 7, 2014

  • Riverdale Riverfest, June 15, 2014
  • Dance Practice

Dance Practice on Wed., May 14th at 6:30 PM in Central Park.

Everyone is welcome to join us for practice; no prior dance experience required... Practices are held in street clothes, as many are traveling after work.

We’ll meet in the grassy area of Shakespeare's garden if it is open. If you follow the "From the West Side" directions,  the grassy area is the "little clearing" before you reach the castle steps. We are typically near the bench on the left side. Once it gets dark OR if the grass isn’t open (or if it is soggy) we move atop the castle.

For more info, to be added to the dance email list, or for other questions, please email dance@northpass.eastkingdom.org.

  • Pennsic 101

    It's that time again!

Spring has arrived, and the Drums of War begin to Beat.

You want to go to Pennsic! Everyone you talk to makes it sound like so much fun...

...but you've never done anything like this, so... now what do you do?

Join us Saturday June 7th 2014 3PM at the Ostgardr and An Dubhaigeainn Challenge for the Annual Pennsic 101 class! Note that the date was chosen because it is
*before* the online pre-reg deadline, so if you're not sure if you want to go, you
    can attend before deciding!

Pennsic is a most wonderful SCA event and attending this class will help you to both
prepare and have the best time possible... We will discuss how to prepare for
Pennsic, what you will need to do and bring. We will answer questions you may have
on how to manage to get your things to Pennsic and what you can expect when you
finally get there and get set up. If you have garb you've already made and are not
sure it's Pennsic-ready, bring it. We can help you decide.

Please email me at TheAlphaWench@hotmail.com to RSVP to the class so I get an idea
of how many handouts I need!

If you can't attend the specified date, please contact me privately - we may be able
    to arrange an alternate date.

I look forward to seeing you there!
