Meetings

Østgarðr Commons

March 21, 2014

Transcribed by Stephen Bloch

Gy Dioguardi ran the meeting as Acting Seneschal.

Officer Reports

Web: Norana has volunteered as deputy, and is working up a site redesign.  Site will be moved from Panix hosting to east-kingdom.org some time soon; have account but haven't moved anything to it yet.

Chronicler: There is a free e-newsletter.  Canton representatives, be sure to carry information BOTH ways between Ostgardr Commons and your Canton (not just from Canton to Ostgardr).

Archery: Too cold to shoot; we'll probably start in April or May.

A&S: Starting series of workshops at Enigma Bookstore.  Stained glass workshop w/Jimi Lee.  Various A&S displays at Mudthaw tomorrow.

Exchequer: Lost a little on Seasons' Beatings, as expected (since it was a free event).  I plan to step down at the end of 2015, and would like all the Canton exchequers to be doing their own books by then.

Vicereine: Went to Artisans' Challenge with Ibrahim.  Great event, lots of good arts entries.

Nordenfjord (Stan): We have money, held in the Ostgardr account until we have our own.  They changed the rules for being a Marshal, so I'm not one any more, so we have no marshal, so no fighting until I've reauthorized.  Erlan has been running glass workshops, and various people are trying their hand at various arts & sciences (stone-carving, recorder, etc.)  Nordenfjord has been reclassified from Southern Region to Central Region (seems to work best for all parties); this doesn't affect Ostgardr's sponsorship of Nordenfjord.

EK Youth Clerk (also Stan): There's a new program called YAFA: Youth And Family Activities, sort of analogous to Scout badges.  Need mentors who can advise children and teens on various activities (mentors must have background check).

Brokenbridge: Viking Day is May 17; A&S has been happening many Fridays.

Chamberlaine: Planning a cookware inventory party in a month or so.  Gui and Mitch have both been researching rental storage space; so far it appears too expensive, but we should do some more research.  Feast gear occupies about 4' x 8' x 4'; green-and-white pavilion is "muckin' huge"; there's also armor stuff at Gui's, gold key at Gy's, etc.

Gold Key: Maria spent an evening at Gy's inventorying, and concluded that we have a good selection of women's clothing but a shortage of men's.  Loaner clothing is currently split between Gy's place, Maria's place, and somewhere else in Whyt Whey.  Doing a series of clothing-related events for newbies: shopping in the Garment District, cutting and patterning, etc.
Need fabric, preferably linen, to make more.  [Chronicler has a lot of colored linen, which she'll either sell for $4/yard or donate for a tax deduction.]

Lions End: Regular A&S stuff happening.

Herald: No news.

Viceroy: Should we hold another free Seasons' Beatings next year?  Consensus says "yes", but we need a date.
Canton representatives, please carry information BOTH ways between Ostgardr Commons and your Canton.
Sunday fighter practice (noon-4:00) currently at 57 Waterbury in Brooklyn, but will move to Grant's Tomb in April.  Armoring workshop April 12 at Tormundr's workshop, 459 W. 52nd St. Manhattan, 4th floor
Suggestion: autocrats post draft event reports on officers' e-list for corrections before sending them to Kingdom.

Upcoming Events and Meetings

Ostgardr/An Dubh Challenge: prereg to Gy Dioguardi, $13.  We currently don't have a Bardic or A&S champion, so we have stand-ins for both positions for the event.  There will be a brewing competition.  Site is not dry, but BYOB (we can't SERVE alcohol).  Need marshals for various things, especially fencing and thrown-weapons.

Planning an autocratting workshop, April 25, but that's also the date of the next Ostgardr Commons, so will reschedule the autocratting workshop.

Queens County Farm Fair demo:  Ian will autocrat

Riverdale Riverfest June 15: we had some complaints last year, they've addressed all the complaints, and the officers assembled voted to do the demo again this year.

Thinking of other things to do with Staten Island site (which we used for Crown last year): maybe an all-tourney event, not renting the hall.

April 25 Commons at Maria's.
May 16 Commons at Gy's.
June 20 Commons at Wilhelm's.
Officers' Corps meeting to be discussed on Officers' List.
