Meetings

Østgarðr Commons

February 21, 2014

Transcribed by Maria Dedvukaj

Attendance was taken through the Seneschal's sign-in sheet before and during the meeting

The meeting was called to order at 8:15PM

Officers' Reports

Knight Marshall:

Sunday fighter practice taking place in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. It's lightly attended and it's a small space as well. Practice at Grants Tomb will start to take place in May. Beau Geste was held on Thursday, February 20th. Baldwin from MSR was the champion and relations with MSR group in Wantagh getting stronger.

Archery:

Nothing is happening due to cold weather.

Exchequer:

Reports completed with minor tweaks. Question was raised if BrokenBridge has an Exchequer. There is one, but not active. Richard would like to train both Nordernfjord and BrokenBridge's exchequers at the same time on how to handle their own accounts. The Viceroy is going to send an email to all Cantons to find out who their exchequer is and wants to hear back from them. Clarification was needed on how to address Nordenfjord on the balance sheets. The Viceroy addressed the need for the Cantons to take responsibility for their accounts.

Arts & Sciences:

A&S night at Magdalena's and Jackie's was cancelled due to bad weather but will begin again next month. A&S at Broken Bridge did take place. A&S report is due March 1st

Chatelaine:

Gold key has been inventoried except for what is being held at Bish's. It was suggested by Sofya that the Gold Key be combined, as there was not enough to be split among the Cantons and that sewing workshops take place to create more clothes for Gold key. This was agreed upon and suggestions were made. The idea of renting a storage facility centrally located that would house all of Østgarðr's Gold Key and feast gear was brought up as well. It was agreed that there was a need but there is a concern of cost and depleting resources was discussed. All officers would look into facilities and costs in the Bronx as this was most accessible to all Cantons. All officers would brainstorm: for funding raising ideas to offset the cost and present at next Commons meeting.  The website is still being worked on but will slow down for a month or so until Norana has time during her grad school classes. Pictures of officers are being added to the website and release forms will be emailed to officers. Sofya has scheduled a fabric shopping date Saturday 2/22. Workshops at Enigma bookstore are being scheduled for Sundays in April. Four instructors have been confirmed so far. There will be a $5 entrance charge

Vicereine:

Athena's Thimble is requesting to host their 30th year anniversary event in Østgarðr, specifically Blue Mountain Trail Lodge in Early November. Baroness Katherine will be the autocrat. This was approved and information will be given to Mistress Briony on scheduling a date.

Viceroy:

The Viceroy addressed the poor attendance of Seneschals and that they need to attend meetings as part of their responsibility to the province. If Cantons do not address the attendance issue and be present in at least 50% of the meetings then maybe it would be best for the Canton to fold and regroup when there is a stronger interest. Brad stepped up from his duty as Deputy Seneschal of BrokenBridge to Seneschal. The Viceroy addressed the lack of fencing instructors. Lord Ye Lui Targai is the current fencing marshal on record but has not been active. A new fencing marshal needs to be found. The Viceroy also mentioned the growing relationship with MSR.

EVENTS/DEMOS:

Bear's Tavern:
Bear's Tavern is taking place the weekend of March 1st and space is still available.
Lunacon:
There will be a small demo table with no further invites. 4 people total.
Bardic Competition:
March 18th is no longer taking place.
Viking Day
May 17th, in Owl's Head Park, Brooklyn, still taking place
An Dubh Challenge:
June 7th: Site and budget ($1300) have been submitted and approved. $600 for site with 2 port-a-john rentals ($120 each). Even if 80 people show up there will be a loss in revenue. Work now is needed to prepare for the event by posting, set up for heavy list fighting and fundraising.
Riverdale Riverfest:
The Riverfest committee wants us back but there was discussion on whether we want to do it and is it worth our time and effort. A stipend was mentioned and Lori will contact them requesting $400 but thinks that $300 is a more likely amount. Also need to work out parking issue.
Stained Glass Demo:
next A&S (March 7th) at Jackie and Luigi's. Lord Connor O'Caliegh (Jimi Lee) will hold a discussion on stain glass and then will determine based on everyone's availability when and where the next stained glass class will be.
Musicians' Day
is on the calendar for November 21-23 at Blue Mountain Trail Lodge.
