Meetings Notes from November's Østgarðr Commons Directions to December Østgarðr Commons Upcoming Events Goings On About Town Articles of Interest Welsh Church Reveals Its Treasures In
the Spirit of the Holiday.... ![]() Ostgardr Commons Nov. 15, 2013 Transcribed by Carol Smith Our Seneschal took attendance through a sign in sheet, which was passed around for everyone to sign.
Officer Reports:
Herald: nothing to report
Lions End: our February event is scheduled for a church in Valley Stream, on February 22. We would like to host either Bardic or A&S Championships for Østgarðr. We are not planning a feast but are planning a running dayboard; theme may be Mediterranean. The event was approved unanimously by all members attending the business meeting.
Chamberlain: We have stuff; feast gear is still in Westchester, as the next event, Bear’s Tavern, is planned there.
Archery: We will have a couple
more practices at Staten Island before it’s too cold
to
hold them.
A&S: Lions End is having
woodworking nights, and there is potential for a
stained
glass workshop. March
8 is an Artisans’
challenge.
Exchequer: We are still in a
state of flux. We need to get paperwork for the two
signatures required by SCA, Inc. (Bank
doesn’t care, only requires one.)
Getting everyone together at the bank on the
same day is a problem.
Chatelaine
(deputy reported): a Chatelaine’s meeting at the
Nordenfjord event was
well-attended. Lions
End is going
through its Gold Key to help Northpass, which has
nothing in the way of
garb. Perhaps
a Provincial Gold Key with
both garb and feast gear could be established.
There is a new SCA Newcomers’ Site on their web
page; perhaps Østgarðr
could do something similar.
Viceroy: offered thanks for all
the hard work.
Seneschal: handed out copies of the bylaws and stated that unless the Cantons reported otherwise by Seasons Beatings, they would be assumed to be accepted by all local Cantons and in effect. It was later discovered that the bylaws were incomplete, so they were returned and will be posted to the officer list soon. We run the following demos on a regular basis: Lions End Boy Scout evening demo, Viking Day, Riverfest, Queens Farms, Fort Tryon Park Demo, and the Bellmore demo (which conflicts with Queens Farms). Should we continue doing these demos? What do we get from them, and is it worth it to us?
New Business: There is an invitation to do an evening demo on December 7 at 5:30 PM, primarily fighting, at the Enigma Bookstore, in conjunction with a Sci Fi book signing. We agreed to do this demo as it would be something to attract possible new membership. Seasons
Beatings is January 11. Upcoming Meetings: The
next meeting will be at the Peters/Bloch residence on
December 20. The January meeting is January 17, place to be determined. The February meeting will be at Jackie and Luigi Kapaj’s house. The meeting was adjourned at 9:30.![]() Directions to December CommonsDecember Commons will be Friday, December 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the home of Deborah Peters and Stephen Bloch, 84-05 113th St., Richmond Hill, NY.
