Meetings

Ostgardr Commons
Sept 20, 2013 at Queens Farm in the dark
Transcribed by Stephen Bloch

Viceroy: Need Seneschal of Brokenbridge to attend Commons.  Ditto Whyt Whey.

Chatelain: will be at Queens Farm tomorrow.  Not much news.

Web: no news.  Still seeking a replacement.

Chronicler: Hi, people I don't know--subscribe to the newsletter!

Arts: Novice Schola still has teacher slots available.
Looking for a deputy, since Melanie has moved to Chicago.
Looking for people wanting to learn C&I.

Archery: practice continuing.  Gave away spiffy badges at Barleycorn; auctioned off a stained-glass panel, raising $270 for new targets.  Arnsbjorg/Helga is new Provincial Archery Champ.

Chamberlain: Some wooden feast gear was put away damp in airtight containers after Barleycorn; some of it will be harder to salvage than to replace.  Getting rolling racks shortly.  Stuff is still with Wilhelm, since next event is Florence event in Northpass.

Exchequer: Transition of office is proceeding.  We have money.

Whyt Whey (via Angela): Evenings at the Solar and fighting at Grant's Tomb continue.  Seneschal (Subitai) apologizes for his absence.

Seneschal: Some Gold Key is currently stored at Lori Copland's mother's house, and needs to be moved.
Some discussion of moving bank accounts to different branch, or even different bank.  Richard says the only reason to go to the "home branch" is to change officers, which happens maybe once a year, so let's not worry about it.
Please don't call Carl after 9 PM.
Text messages not so good; Facebook not so good; please contact by e-mail.

Northpass: Barleycorn happened; awesome weather, everybody seemed happy.  Florence in a few weeks.

Queens Farm Fair: is happening tomorrow.  G&W is set up (we're sitting under it).  Somebody bring an axe to sharpen stakes.  Somebody bring waivers for fighting.

Bellmore Street Fair: is happening, also tomorrow.  Guy is unhappy that this demo is competing with QCFFD, not only for fencers (as they said at last mtg) but also for other stuff.  Differing recollections: they were also planning to have an arts table, a chatelaine, etc.  Guy will talk to Lions End seneschal and demo steward.

Fort Tryon Fair: Still waiting for final word on where and how much parking.  Will need license plates, cell numbers, etc. for vehicles.  Angela will announce on various lists.  Organizers suggested using barriers borrowed from Battle of the Nations people, who will be set up next to us.  Make sure our people are doing SCA fighting, and theirs are doing BotN fighting, even though some people do both.  May share changing tent, not much more.

Florence: Carl cooking; menu will be up shortly.  Taking reservations.

Nordenfjord Novice Schola: Her Majesty will be attending; not sure whether it's official or incognito.

Musicians' Day (November): everybody seems OK with budget.  Wilhelm will call Blue Mountain tomorrow re November 2014 dates.

Bear's Tavern (Feb. 28-Mar. 2): not much progress.

Brew U (March): no progress.

Seasons' Beatings: need date; autocrat Sooper Seekrit

An Dubh Challenge: need date (probably June) and autocrat.  At Huntington UU.

Agincourt: in thinking stage.  Could we use Queens Farm?

Northpass considering bringing back Riding of the Marches, perhaps under changed name.  First weekend in May?  (may conflict with Bridge Walpurgisnacht)

Announcements of Events: Event coordinators, demo coordinators, etc. are responsible for sending publicity to various places: Ostgardr list, Canton lists, Chronicler, Webmaster.  A group of adults should be able to deal with this kind of miscommunication civilly, without blowing up on a public group.

Possibility of using Queens Farm education building gratis for regular arts workshops.  Debbie will ask again after this weekend.

Officers' Meeting: can use Piglet's Solar site, 1 PM on Sunday Nov. 10.  Hope to be finished by 3:30 or so.  One thing to discuss is frequency of Officers' Meetings, which is specified in Bylaws, which sorta died in mid-approval process eight years ago.

October Commons: Oct. 18 at Sophia's in Astoria.  Contact her. [Actually held at Kapaj's, in Bnx --Ed.]

November Commons: Nov. 15 at Sophia's in Astoria.

December Commons: Dec. 20 at Peters/Bloch residence.

Pennsic Camp meeting: some time in the winter.  Discuss dates on lists.

Lions End: The February event is canceled

Herald: nothing

Archery: practice happening, a few new people from Ft Tryon. Chinua won his rank at 3Gs

Viceroy: nothing new to report. New king and queen, Beau Geste on Sunday at Grant’s tomb

Northpass: New dance practice this Sunday. Discussed Florence event and Tavern. Discussing options for a social gathering.

Exchequer: as of this moment Viceroy and seneschal are the only people local as signatories to the account, because a number of the offices are influx it will take time to get everyone on, best to do it all at once. We have money

A&S: Schola on the 26th. Still need a deputy

Chatelain: lots of demos all went well. We made contact with 80+ people that were interested in the SCA. Canton chatelaines and the Ostgardr chatelaine have been discussing a greeting letter to send out to people. A small introductory event a few weeks after the event to have to bring those prospective people in. a lot of people like the idea.
Sofia is a deputy chatelaine for the province
Discussion about how to get new people involved at an event so they do not get scared away. How to get them involved and point them to the right person based on what they want to get involved in.

Emailed reports:

Whyt Whey: artsy things going on every week, fighting on Sunday, 85K at cloisters, Thank you all (long list of people)

Knight Marshal: Louis de Castilla won Ostgardr Champion at cloisters, winners of the tournaments at Queens farm and Beau Gest (Fredrich read off too fast couldn’t get it down)

Seneschal: report is in, stepping down, drop dead emergency Lori not here due to family thing.
Queens farm demo went well, it rained on Saturday, Sunday was great. Fighting was good, archery was good. Big thank you from the seneschal to all
Florentine went well.
Bellmore demo was very small, the people had a really good time and were happy to come to Queens farm the next day. It was high foot traffic.
From our incipient shire: no fighting, working on fencing, gold key collection, no $$ yet from the exchequer. Heraldry petition completed for name and advice. 8 paid members, 4 unpaid.
