Meetings

October Commons Minutes

Transcribed by Stephen Bloch

October. 19, 2012

Lions End: did Bellmore demo.  100K people attended.  BSA wants demo in Franklin Square 11/16 7:30-9:00 PM.

Discussion of Commons dates: propose (11/15 or 11/30).
EDIT: after the meeting, 11/15 was agreed to.
Digression to the merits of remote meetings.  Tabled the latter.
Guy will talk to Jeff and Lorree about either November date; if not, Sherri volunteered for 11/30.

Vicereine: Fallish Fiber Frolic had five newcomers (all contacts from either Queens Farm faire or Fort Tryon faire).
Coill Tuar has dance event tomorrow.

Chronicler: If you have tech difficulties with E-Horse, please let us know so we can fix them.
Tell your people about the E-Horse, which is free and gratis and kostenlos.

Web: no real news.

Historian: Note that we haven't hosted a major Kingdom event in about 4.5 years; maybe we should think about it again.  Need to start looking for cool sites now.

Chatelaine: dozens of contacts at Fort Tryon, Queens Farm, and Bellmore.  How to turn them into active members?

Northpass: firming up plans for various upcoming events (Tavern, Barleycorn, etc.)  Cleaning up Bylaws.

Exchecquer: We have money.  Event report from FFF has been filed.  If we need to add any more signers, need to request a new resolution from Corporation.  Maybe this should wait until office changeover in January.  Arrange times/days that people can physically go to bank with Ian.

Chamberlain: nothing to report.

Archery: there's been some archery, and some rain.

A&S: Lada ran an A&S event last month.  We currently have two candidates for A&S office; they should submit applications as under new rules approved last month.
Dates have been set for Bardic Champs (2/2) & A&S Champs (2/16).  If you're entering these or anything similar, inform Viceregents.

Viceroy: Hoping to soon have ongoing fighter practice in upper Manhattan, on Sundays.  Go to An Dubh investiture; should be fun.
New monarch of Cynagua is a woman; renamed Colossus of Ostgardr in her honor for the duration of her reign.

Seneschal: need letters of intent from people who want to continue or apply for offices.  Seneschal, KtMarshal, A&S, Archery, Web, Chatelaine, LE Seneschal, WW Seneschal are all up to change in January.  Ysenda will send out a reminder on various lists.

Brokenbridge:  Fallish Fibre Frolic happened, 45 people, including 5 newcomers.  All the classes were well attended.  There was a raffle; Guy will be the prettiest princess at the Harvest Ball.

Ysenda was at String Thing and made sprang; lotsa fun.  Next one is 11/1.

Upcoming Events & Demos:

Musicians' Day: Have most of the class schedule worked out.  Bruce has menu largely worked out (including a dish called "Bruce").  Kitchen gear is currently at Bornanders' place, so will discuss with kitcheners how to get it there.

Brokenbridge Turkey Dinner 2nd Friday in November at Motylewskis'

Seasons' Beatings: Probably 1/19   Not sure of site yet.  Discussion of whether to make it "donation requested".  [Coronation was on a donation basis, and seems to have done OK.]  Discussion of doing a pot-luck at Canton level (i.e. each Canton agrees on something to bring).  Details depend on kitchen facilities.  Wilhelm will check w/church in Yonkers.

December Commons: Several people prefer 12/15 over 12/22.  So mote it be.

Katherine: planning series of clothing workshops with Jackie.  Discussion of locations.  11/18 "Fabric and Design" at Kapajs', starting noon or 1:00; several more haven't been pinned down yet.

Dance practice: Outdoor dance practice is over for the year, but have two likely indoor sites.

Lada: 10/28 scribal workshop at Eularia's; another one in Lions End some time in November.

Upcoming Commons

11/15 [THURSDAY!] in True/Berry's meeting room [Manhattan]
12/15 [SATURDAY!]at Peters/Bloch [Queens]

Directions to November Commons

November Commons will be on THURSDAY, November 15 in the basement meeting room of Lorree True and Jeff Berry, 552 Riverside Dr. (just south of 125th Street on Riverside Drive).

DIRECTIONS

By Subway
Take the #1 train to 125th St.  Exit to the right after coming out of the turnstile and go down the escalator to 124th St. (there's a sign in the station pointing the way). On the street, you'll be at the intersection of Broadway and Tiemann Pl.  Go up the hill on Tiemann Pl. towards the park.  That's Riverside Dr.  Turn right on Riverside and our building is in the middle of the block (a little block heading downhill toward the huge Columbia residence next door).  Shout for someone to let you in!

By Car
From the west, take the Henry Hudson to the 125th street exit.
From the east, cross somewhere and get to 125th and RSD.  (For example, the Triboro Bridge dumps you onto 125th; when you get to Broadway, start looking for parking.)  Your best bet for parking is up around Grant's Tomb.  If you do park by Grant's Tomb, you'll need to walk east and then down.  We're on a short chunk of RSD which is one-way, and next to the tallest building for blocks (well, excepting  Riverside Church).
