Pennsic-camp discussion postponed because only two
people staying in Ostgardr camp at Pennsic are here.
Officers
Whyt Whey:
Commons scheduled 6/21 at Piglet's, preceding Stitch
& Sing
Stuff continues.
Wave Hill (arts center in Bronx, on site of estate of
former Arms & Armor curator at Met) will want an
arms-n-armor demo some time in 2013. Melanie will
keep informed.
Arts & Sciences:
Planning mask-making workshop, probably June 9 or
thereabouts, to prepare for Barleycorn. Will put
notice on e-lists & get feedback on possible dates.
Planning a workshop on "presenting for demos", talking
to public, etc.
Some discussion on how much of our mission is "educating
the public" vs. "educating our members". In any
case, knowing how to work a crowd is good.
It would be nice if it happened before Riverfest, but
certainly before Queens Farm & Fort Tryon.
Chronicler:
Feedback on E-Horse, please. Resisted going
electronic for years, for aesthetic reasons, but trying
it now. Can embed color photos, links, sound
files, videos, etc. What can we do with this
format? Beta-test version was sent to a variety of
people w/different platforms, different levels of
tech-fu, etc.
Should we still have a print publication? If so,
suggest making it quarterly, emphasizing features &
articles. How do we handle the outstanding
subscription payments? Content for quarterly:
event chronicles, "what I did on my summer vacation?",
book reviews, etc.
Web: Have been
working on E-Horse. MySQL is now approved on
Panix, so we can migrate some of that stuff.
Have a Deputy (Tauna); not sure how often she'll get to
meetings. Guy has a bunch of ideas about Web site;
Steve's semester ends this weekend so he'll have a bit
more time.
Northpass:
Commons discussed a snapping turtle. Most of the
rest was about Barleycorn, which will be discussed
later.
Deputy Chatelaine:
Lori Copland brought banner, flyer, & business cards
to show & tell.
Viceroy: We have
a banner (see above). Will discuss with Alexandre
how to "move fencing forward".
Archery: going
great guns, lots of new people participating.
Upcoming Events &
Demos:
Viking Day
tomorrow. Lilli & Lily are running
things. Various people will be there with various
stuff. Cy Lambert talking about teaching people to
write in futhark; has handouts.
Riverfest 6/24:
Congressman Elliott Engle wants to do some kind of
presentation for Team USA, putting their names in the
Congressional Record. Lucan will ask Team USA
people to come for demo (both live-steel and SCA-style).
Site has decided to be very open about activities: fire
OK, cooking OK, handing out food samples OK, human
sacrifice dubious. We should come up with a
schedule of specific-topic classes & demos; Lori
will write up a call. Discussion of how to arrange
our various demo stations. Valgard & Guy will
supervise fighting; Suuder & Ysenda will oversee
physical layout; etc.
Barleycorn
9/7-9. The usual activities. Brigitte will
do feast.
Theme: "unmasked".
Queens County Farm Fair
9/22-23
Fort Tryon 9/30
Musicians' Day
11/16-18
