About This Newsletter

This newsletter, "The E-Horse", is an experiment in electronic publishing: a computerized version of the venerable "Seahorse" newsletter. Obviously, it doesn't require photocopying, collating, stapling, stamping, and sealing, and it's not subject to the vagaries of the U.S. Postal System. It also allows us to easily include photos like the one at right (a set of wooden writing-tablets, from the Byzantine empire, c. 500-700 AD, currently in the the Metropolitan Museum of Art).


It allows us to include videos, e.g. the following BBC show about the 14th-century English cookbook The Forme of Cury.

We can even include sound recordings like this one:

We have Money. Ostgardr sent check in to East Kingdom $1500 for "Loan".
Lions End:
Lions on the Silk Road event was great. Thanks to all who attended. Lost and found: 1 set of feast ware: bowl, matching plate, chop sticks and tankard, black top, short sleeves, please contact co-autocrat to claim senechallionsend@gmail.com. Lionsend is also hosting a demo for the Boy Scouts , Saturday March 10, 2012 in New Hyde Park, We need fighters and fencers. If you can help, please contact senechallionsend@gmail.com. Sorry for the short notice. Lionsend will be sending a loan check to East Kingdom shortly.

Old Business:

Waivers for photographs on web sites, must put disclaimer on web site and must abide by Coprora rules. No Web people present, discussion shelved.

Sir Gui is working on a new website-much easier to navigate. Ostgardr.org.

FUNDRAISING, FUNDRAISING, FUNDRAISING.

ACCEPS credit card system, discussed feasibility of using.

Fundraiser to put personal arms on dags on the new Green & White. Price of $50 or $100 per dag. SCA Banner and Ostgardr Banner discussed. Lori is to do pricing. Wall Calendars as fundraiser also discussed. Lori will check with her printer contacts for pricing. Auctions were discussed. Felt they work better at some events than others. Discussed having hand made items (not old stuff) Items that would show the talent of our members. Baron Bish has a garb donation that he has inventoried and some of the items would be very good for an auction. Raffles and 50-50''s were discussed. A lot of ideas were raised. Discussion was shelved until later meeting when more people were present Richard the Poor brought up the idea of making a donation and that would get you your own piece of feast gear for a period of time ie: The Richard the Poor Soup Pot, the Lionsend frying pan, etc. warm reception, further discussion needed.

Sir Gui brought up the idea of Viceregal Crowns. They are entitled to wear them, we now have chains of office. Shelved til larger meeting.

Tax ID numbers brought up, baron Ian to look into it.

Meeting adjourned to partake of the yummy smelling food.

Note location change: the meeting will not be at Sherre's place in Nassau County!

DIRECTIONS

By Car: 

From Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island: Best route to Triboro Bridge, Bronx bound. After bridge, get onto the Bruckner Expwy. North/I-278. Follow I-278/Bruckner until it merges with I-95/Bruckner North. Take the City Island/Shore Rd. exit off I-95. Follow Shore Rd. across the draw bridge. At the first light after the draw bridge, make a right onto City Island Rd. and follow at ** below.

From Westchester and Points North: Best Route to Hutchinson River Parkway South. Exit at the Orchard Beach/ City Island Exit. Follow the exit ramp into the traffic circle. Make the first right off the traffic circle onto Shore Rd. Follow Shore Rd. to the first traffic light. Make a left at the first light onto City Island Rd. and follow at ** below.

From Long Island and Queens (alternate): Best Route to Whitestone Bridge. At the end of the bridge, get onto Hutchinson River Parkway North. Exit at the Orchard Beach/ City Island exit. (It’s the first exit after the draw bridge.) Follow the exit ramp into the traffic circle. Make the first right off the traffic circle onto Shore Rd. Follow Shore Rd. to the first traffic light. Make a left at the first light onto City Island Rd. and follow at ** below.

**Follow City Island Road to the traffic circle. Take second exit off of traffic circle onto City Island Rd. Go across the City Island Bridge and bear right onto City Island Avenue. Our house is about 9 blocks down, on the right hand side, between Schofield and Center Streets. The entry door is unlocked. Come in and ring the marked buzzer.

By Mass Transit:

Best route the Pelham Bay Terminal (end of the 6 train line) Take the BX29 bus City Island Bound to the stop between Schofield and Center Streets. Get off the bus and walk up the block to 223 City Island Avenue.

Note: Pelham Bay Station is the terminus of the 6 train and the following express busses:

    *BxM7A – from Manhattan

    *QBx1 – from Flushing

The Northern A & S gathering is back for another month of projects. Bring what you're working on and share.

A dinner buffet of both period and modern fare will be available. Contributions of food and drink are always welcome. Come on out!

Directions: Public transportation: # 4 train to the end of the line - Woodlawn station. When you go downstairs go across the street to the bus shelter and take either the number 34 or 16 it is only a short ride the bus follows along the Woodlawn Cemetery and turns on the corner of East 233rd street. As soon as you see the BP Gas Station (on the left at the first light one block up) ring the bell the next stop is Napier Avenue. Cross the street and walk 3 short blocks  Our house is the one on the corner of E236th street entrance on Napier.

Driving: From the south, take your best route to the Major Deegan (87) and use exit 13 EAST 233rd Street, at the end of the exit ramp is a light go straight
**at the next light make a left onto Van Cortland Park East (The BP Station is on the corner) go three blocks to Napier avenue our house is on the corner on the right.

From the north take your best route to the Major Deegan (87) take exit 13 EAST 233rd street at the end of the ramp make a left at the light onto East 233rd street follow directions from ** above
